Half Term Activities October 18, 2014

Lots of things going on in and around Letchworth this half term so definitely no time for the kids to get bored! (parents might need kids to go back to school so they can get a rest but that’s a different matter!) So here we go:

Saturday 25th October -Saturday 1st November

Spooktacular half term horror trail. Follow the trail around participating retailers in Letchworth town centre to collect stickers and trick or treats along the route. A list of the participating stores will be available at shop Letchworth.

Saturday 25th October

10am-4pm Haunted Houses at Dot to Dot, the Wynd, LGC. Create spooky houses for a window display. This is a free activity but please email venice@rhapsode.org.uk to reserve a spot.

10.30am-12pm Halloween ‘dress-up and dance’ disco at Icknield Infant & Nursery School. £1 per family and tickets need to be booked in advance from Icknield children’s centre. Aimed at families with 0-5 yr children but older siblings are welcome. Icknield and Grange families prioritised.

2-4pm Creation Station Crafty Saturday at the Secret Garden, 10 Sun Street, Hitchin. Help raise funds for Lister Hospital’s Magic of Play appeal and Rays of Sunshine. Create 3d models, mini canvas masterpieces, funky glasses or noodle doodle pictures. Tickets £8 per family please book at the Creation Station.

5.30-8.30pm Baldock Halloween Party & Fireworks Display at Hartsfield School. This looks like a great event with fun fair rides, family disco, children’s halloween fancy dress competition, food court, bar and live music. Tickets are £5 per adult, £3.50 per child or £15 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) and can be purchased online at Badock town or from Tapps garden centre and M-Viron.

Sunday 26th October

10.30am-3.30pm Big Art Sunday at Dot to Dot, The Wynd, LGC. Create a Halloween montage – lots of paint, printing and sticking. Please contact corina@rhapsode.org.uk for details.

Monday 27th October

10.30am-12pm Baby sensory play at Chestnut Tree Children’s Centre. Pre-crawling babies only, no older siblings. 50p donation, no need to book.

11am Free Halloween crafts at the Secret Garden, Sun Street, Hitchin.

2pm Free Spooky film screening at The Secret Garden.

2-3pm Explorer’s Walk – Spooky Advenure! Take a spooky Halloween hunt through Norton Common. Meet at the park by the outdoor swimming pool. Free activity for 0-5s but older siblings welcome.

2.30-3.30pm or 3.30-4.30pm Trampolining at Hitchin Boys School Sports Centre. Trampolining sessions for age 3+, £7 for non-members and £5 members. Call Ally on 07745 569184 for details.

Tuesday 28th October

9.30am Daisy Bakes at The Secret Garden. Halloween themed cupcake decorating for ages 2+. £7 per child.

10.45am Daisy Bakes at The Secret Garden. Halloween themed cupcake decorating for ages 5+. £15 per child.

11.30am The Lego Movie. Broadway Cinema kids club, tickets are only £1 so book early.

11.30am or 2pm Kids Do the Funniest Things at Letchworth Arts Centre. Fun workshops for kids aged 6-14 to delevop their own comedy stand up routines ending with a performance for their friends and family. Tickets are £15 and can be booked here.

1.30-3.30pm and 2-3pm Gymnastics sessions at Hitchin Boys Sports Centre. £14 for 4-16 yrs. These sessions need to be booked and paid for in advance by contacting Ally on 07745 569184 or ally21hbs@hotmail.co.uk

2-2.45pm Creating Halloween Heads craft activity at he Secret Garden. £5/£7.

Wednesday 29th October

9.30-11am Parent & Child open gym session at Marriotts Gymnastics Club, Stevenage. These open sessions were really popular over the summer so I’d recommend getting there close to the start. £5 per child for walking – 5 years. No more than 2 children per adult and children must not wear jewellery, jeans, buttons, belts or zips.

10am-2pm Arts, crafts and creative fun at Icknield Children’s Centre with activities to take home. Free drop-in for 0-5s but older siblings welcome.

11am Free Halloween colouring at the Secret Garden, Hitchin.

12.45-2pm Jackmans Stay & Play at Jackmans Community Centre. Play session with active and messy play fun. Aimed at 0-5s but older siblings welcome. 50p donation, no need to book.

1.30-2.30pm Mama Sugar Shakes at the Secret garden. Carribean dancing and singing for 0-5s.

2pm Free spooky film at the Secret Garden.

2.30-3.30pm or 3.30-4.30pm Trampolining at Hitchin Boys School Sports Centre. Trampolining sessions for age 3+, £7 for non-members and £5 members. Call Ally on 07745 569184 for details.

6-8pm Halloween disco at Space2Play in Hitchin. Disco, fancy dress competition and party games. Tickets are £8 per child, £1.50 for under 1s and adults free. Book tickets now at the venue or by calling 422354.

Thursday 30th October

10-11am, 11.30am-12.30pm and 2-3pm Horrid Histories. Free storytelling of local myths and legends and a chance to create your own horrid histories. 10am for 6-9yrs, 11.30am for 9-12yrs and 2pm for all 6-12yrs. Part of Letchworth’s fire and fright festival.

10-11.30am Autumn Crafts at St Michael’s Church Hall. Aimed at 0-5s but older siblings welcome. 50p donation, no need to book.

10am-4pm Spookyrumpus with Guy Parker-Rees (the illustrator of Spookyrumpus and Giraffes can’t dance) at Dot to Dot. Booking essential so please email venice@rhapsode.org.uk (at the time of writing this blog, I think this session is fully booked but please check with Dot to Dot)

10.30am-2pm Bats, Cats and rats at British Schools museum in Hitchin. Drop-in to join fun make and play activities. £4 per child, adults free. Booking recommended http://www.britishschoolsmuseum.co.uk

11.30am Frozen Singalong at Broadway Cinema Kids Club. Tickets are only £1 and this will be a popular one so book now!

1-2pm Kindy Drama at the Secret Garden. Really fun drama class for 3-5 yrs. £5.

2-2.45pm Halloween Mucky Pups at the Secret Garden. Find the bugs in squidgy jelly and slimy spaghetti. £5/£7.

4-6pm Halloween Party at The Secret Garden. All ages welcome (even over 5s) £10 per ticket includes party food, fun, games, dancing and prizes for the best Halloween costume.

Friday 31st October

10am-1pm Halloween photo booth at the Secret Garden. Bring your little ones along in their favourite Halloween outfits and the photographer will be there to capture them.

10.15-11.30am Learn It storytelling session at the Secret Garden. £4 includes session, refreshments and play.

10am-3pm Horrid Histories Animation at Letchworth Arts Centre. Free drop-in session to create your own Horrid History animation, suitable for age 5+.

10.30am Note to Note Halloween and Birthday Fancy Dress Party at Dot to Dot. A fun singing and stories session for little ones and their parents. £3 contribution and prizes for costumes.

11am and 2.30pm Trick or Treat – the great Halloween Hunt at the Secret Garden with apple bobbing, colouring scary masks and hunting for treats!

2-3pm Gymnastics sessions at Hitchin Boys Sports Centre. £7 for 3-6 yrs. These sessions need to be booked and paid for in advance by contacting Ally on 07745 569184 or ally21hbs@hotmail.co.uk

2-3.30pm Halloween arts, crafts and creative fun at the Grange Scout Hut. 50p per family for families from the Grange and Icknield area. Tickets must be booked in advance from Icknield Children’s Centre.

2.30-4.30pm Halloween Horrors at Howard Park & Gardens (Letchworth paddling pool). Free activities including potion making, wizard wands, goo making, rodeo pumpkin, bobbing for apples, pumpkin activities, scary games and more. All welcome and a fancy dress competition.

3-5pm Trick or Treat Halloween Party at Little Rascals. Tickets are £8.50 for one child and one adult There’s a disco, halloween activities and games, candy floss, bouncy castle and fancy dress. Tickets are available now so book asap if you want to go.

4-6pm Spooky Spectacular Halloween Party at Jungle Jims Playland in Sandy. Spooky fun and games, costume competition and Halloween dances. Tickets are £7.50 (includes one free adult) and include a hot snack and a party bag to take home. Call 01767 682808 to book tickets. I think this seems one of the best value of all the soft play Halloween discos.

5-6.30pm Light Party at St. Paul’s Church Hall, Pixmore Way, LGC. If all the Halloween activities this week are getting a little dark and sinister for your kids’ liking then why not try this Light Party instead? Open to all children in school years 1-6, it’s an evening of fun, games, crafts and activities and includes dinner and an ice cream factory! Book your place on St. Paul’s website.

Saturday 1st November

Day of the Dead crafting all day at Dot to Dot. Dontation only, drop-in.

10am-3pm Frankenstein Toy making at Letchworth Arts Centre. Free drop-in for ages 5+. Reuse, recycle and twist together old toys to make a new one.

Sunday 2nd November

7pm (doors open at 5.30pm) Letchworth & Baldock Lions Club Fireworks display at he Herts FA County Ground, Baldock Road, LGC. Book tickets in advance from David’s Bookshop at a special rate of £4 for adults and £3 for U16s. (on the night, tickets are £6 and £4 so well worth booking.)
